McKenzie's Surgery

This last weekend we went to Boise to have McKenzie's cyst on her eye removed. I wasn't too worried, but it's one of those things you don't want to think too hard about or you'll really freak yourself out. I decided to take it one step at a time, and my first worry was the no eating for six hours thing. She sometimes does o.k. sleeping through the night, but sometimes she doesn't. I wasn't sure if I should wake her up to feed her, or just let her sleep. I set my alarm for 12:30 a.m. so that I could wake up and feed her, but once my alarm went off I decided to let her sleep. Well, the last minute I could feed her was 1:30 a.m., and I laid in bed stressing whether I made the right choice or not. At 1:15 a.m. McKenzie woke up. I was so excited and was finally able to go to sleep after she ate. We then woke up at 5:45 to get to the doctor's office. The anesthesiologist must have known what he was doing because he hurried and took McKenzie before either one of us knew what was going on. From there I only know what the doctor's told me. Apparently she did really well and didn't hardly know what was going on before she went under. The doctor had told me that her surgery would last approximately 30 to 35 minutes. She went in to surgery at 7:30 a.m. and by 8:45 a.m. when I still had no word I was beginning to really worry. But, everything actually turned out perfectly. The doctor said that the surgery was a little more difficult than he had anticipated. The cyst was more attached to the bone and surroundings than he thought so it took him a little longer to detach it. We still don't know for sure what the mass was, but the doctor thinks it is either an epidermal cyst (which is a bunch of dead skin cells) or a sebaceous cyst (which is something about body oils). Either way, the doctor is not worried, but will run tests to be sure, and I am just glad to have this over with. Now McKenzie's face is literally flawless (but I'm not bias). I'm also just so grateful to her wonderful doctor, Dr. Garner who did such a wonderful job and took such great care of her!

This is McKenzie before the surgery with her cute little dog "Frenchy" that my mom gave her for her surgery. McKenzie loves her - thanks mom!

This is McKenzie right after her surgery still trying to recover from the anesthesia

Because the doctors wanted to make sure that she stayed completely under for the entire surgery they had to hook her up to an IV and a breathing tube. This way the mask couldn't get in the way, and the drugs wouldn't wear off too soon. She is such a trooper.

Here's me just happy she's doing so well. She's still hooked up to the IV trying to wake up.

Here is McKenzie's beautiful surgery blanket that Jolene helped me make. Thanks Jolene!!!
